Winter Robinson

This is an excerpt from Winter Robinson's novel in progress. The protagonist in the story is Morgaine, a medical intuitive. In this excerpt Morgaine is teaching a woman, Selene, how to sense subtle energy and how to focus her awareness to get intuitive information.

"Ok. Let's get started. Hold your hands about six inches apart, palms facing each other." I took her hands and moved them slightly closer together. "Close your eyes. Feel anything?" Selene nodded. "Now move them back and forth, closer, further." Selene moved her hands back and forth for a minute. "It feels like putting two positive ends of a magnet together. My hands are tingling."

We spent the next thirty minutes exploring the idea of Chi-the life force which moves through everything. I explained to Selene that being able to feel this vital force was possibly the most important intuitive sense she could develop. Sensing an enhanced flow of Chi (Qi) would suggest a strong immune system. Lack of chi would show a blockage or potential illness.

"This is fun." Selene moved closer to me and held her hand four inches above my head. She slowly moved her hand down my body, maintained the distance, and commented on what she felt.

"My hands are tingling. They feel very hot at the top of your head, but..." Selene knelt behind me and ran her hands over the back of my legs, "cooler as I move down your legs." She backed away and squinted.
"Can you see energy?" She asked.
"Sometimes. I'm better at sensing it."

Selene opened her eyes and took a deep breath. Her excitement was contagious.
"You might experiment with pausing before you enter a room full of people and see what energy you notice. Your work with lenders will be good practice."
"What if I don't like their energy? How do I change it?"
I rubbed my temple, deciding what to tell her. "I wouldn't. You don't want to manipulate others. I'd suggest you surround yourself, and them with light."
"Light?"

"Light...the universal symbol for protection, love, well-being. We think of Jesus, angels, The Buddha, all being wrapped in a white light. Quakers hold the person that needs healing in the light. Because much of my initial work was done with Quakers, I adopted the habit.

"Now, I want to help you learn to relax. There's one more rule before we start. The Buddhists say, `Harm no one,' and the Wiccan creed is, `Ill will comes back three fold.' In other words,. . ." I smiled and patted her hand, "...don't do to someone else what you don't want done to you." Selene moved her eyebrows together ever so slightly, suggesting a frown.
"Karma, Selene. Karma."

Selene said she had heard that many times, so I let it drop. I continued the session by explaining my belief that imagination is real. Pictures, thoughts, feelings that we sense internally are attached to phenomenon in our world. "Are you a visual person, or do you know?" I asked.

"Do I see pictures in my mind? I think so. I can visualize a dog, or house if that's what you mean."

During the next hour we learned how Selene received psychic information. I asked her to imagine an orange, then hold the image in her mind.
"I see an orange, it has Sunkist stamped on it. Wait! It's changing to a bunch of grapes."
"Bring the focus back to an orange. Hold the orange in your mind." I suggested.
"I can't. It comes and goes. I see the sun."
"Come back to the orange. Can you smell it?"
"No."
"Taste it?"
"Oh yes. I can definitely taste it," She licked her lips.
"Are there any voices, thoughts, or feelings of thoughts in your head?"
"Feeling of thought?"

I explained that sometimes we had a sense that was difficult to label, yet we knew the information it contained. I call this the feeling of a thought. Voices can be thoughts as well as real voices. In working with Selene I needed to know how her mind worked. How did she receive intuitive information?

"What do you get when I mention the European Investors?" I asked.
"What do I get?"
"Do you get any thought or feeling? Any felt sense?"
Selene gave me a flat expression.

"A felt sense is our physical response to subtle energy. One example might be that if you have a headache and my head starts hurting. I would be picking up the subtle energy of your headache."
"How do you know that you don't have a headache, too?" She said.
"I don't always know. I have to ask myself the question, is this my headache? If it is, it will keep hurting. If it isn't...if it's someone else's headache, it will go away when I ask the question."
"I see. To answer your question, I don't get any feeling about the investors." She said.
"That could be an answer. Or, it might just mean that you're tired and need a break. Let's try a different tactic... music. Put this headset on and lie down on the berth." I pulled the headset off the rack and handed it to her.

"We're going to begin by following your breath," I said. "This essential physical rhythm is life itself. Most of us have forgotten how to breathe. As babies we breathe roundly and deeply, incorporating our whole bodies in the act. But as adults we are chest breathers, which produces a whole host of physiological symptoms."
Selene moved her eyebrows together, "Such as?"
"Well, it has been tied to everything from autoimmune diseases to cancer and heart disease, not to mention lack of energy, high anxiety, the blahs...even lower back pain."
She smiled and closed her eyes."Then I'd better pay attention to this. Anything that helps my energy level, I'm all for."
"Good. Follow your breath, inhale, exhale."

I listened to Selene's slow breathing, and silently asked my Spirits for guidance in teaching her. "Inhale in. Put your hand on your stomach. If it moves up and out, you're doing it right." Selene placed her left hand on her stomach. I waited while she experimented with her breath. "When you do breathing exercises, you're actually strengthening your muscles from the inside. Now, imagine that you are breathing in clarity, change. Exhale and breathe out anything that no longer serves you: illness, anxiety, jealousy. Breathe it out." I waited a few more minutes, again watching the rise and fall of her stomach, before I continued. "Imagine a white light is coming in to the top of your head, moving down your body, and out the soles of your feet." I listened to the gentle music playing through my headsets and gave the final directives as I slid the bar on the mixer, fading from one CD to another. "Bring the light up the sides of your body and down, then up your back and forward over your head and down. You've wrapped yourself in a cocoon of white light." "I'm trying, but I can't see any light."

"That's ok. Just pretend it's there. I don't always see it, but it's an integral part of my ritual."
