INsights
The other day, my daughter and I were doing errands. One of the
errands
was to pick up her brother and a friend who were playing golf. There
was a vague idea of when to pick them up, but no definite time. As
we
were driving along, I indicated that we'd better go and pick up the
boys
first before we go to the store. Why she asked? She was in a rush
get
to the store to pick out birthday treats for her upcoming party. I
told
her that I just checked in, and I felt the boys would be ready for
pick
up when we got to the golf course. Mind you, I did not call on my
cell
phone for this information...rather, I checked in to my well honed
inner
guidance system.
My daughter wanted to know how I checked in, what made me feel like
the
timing was right?...quite a good question from a nine year old. And,
it
got me to thinking...how do I check in? How can I explain this in a
understandable way?
I have always known, appreciated and honored my inner voice, my
intuition, my gut feelings. My family never thought that "checking
in",
or feeling out a situation was odd, rather, it was studied by some
and
appreciated by most of us. So, I had local, friendly support of my
inner guidance system from a young age. Without this support, I may
have supressed my guidance or thought it crazy to listen to that
little
voice or that body sensation. Luckly, I had a family where I could
talk
about my thought and feeling processes.
I also took time to study about intuition after I realized that it
could
enhance my lifestyle. Intuition offers me so many ways of guidance:
it
is a faster way of doing work in the business world, it allowed me to
filter social issues to see what was right for me, it allowed me to
know
immediately when I met my husband that we were to marry, it alerts me
to
safe places and more. I keep the second guessing to a bare minimum
as I
practice, practice, practice this easy way of knowing.
So, as I answered my daughter, I explained that I feel out the
situation
in my body and mind by asking the question and to see if the signal
is
to go and get the boys, or go to the store first. The answer was a
vague, subtle signal that is not easily explainable, but the emphasis
was to go pick them up first. This took place in the space of 1-2
seconds. As I practice more and more, the timing for questions and
answers shortens. Some people use muscle testing, pendulums,
red/green
light signals in their minds, or other ways of knowing with the
therory
being that our spirit knows before our body and mind. I use spiritual
guidance for the mundane things in life. It works for me!
As we drove into the golf course, the boys were just finishing their
putts on the ninth green and were ready for pickup. The timing was
impecable and I thanked my inner sense for such excellent guidance.
Once again, inner awareness saved me time and effort...quite a relief
in
our time starved culture!
